Beaded Breakfast

Last week Tessa and Rosa took me to see the new Liza Lou exhibition at White Cube, Hoxton Square. Tessa had done a good job getting me interested in Liza Lou's work prior to the visit. It was a bit disappointing as what was exhibited differed such a lot to her earlier work, some of which I think is incredible - a beaded kitchen!!  Instead it was a lot more reserved:

I do actually quite like these particular pieces and enjoyed seeing them at the show, but wasn't blown away by the exhibition at all. The intensity of her earlier works such as 'Kitchen' (below) had eased and the beads no longer seemed to make the statement that they could rival paint, but instead simply mimicked it.

Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day, and I generally love anything breakfast related... This probably explains why Liza Lou's 'Kitchen' is such a hit with me, it comes complete with fried eggs

Gilbert and George

Last night I paid a visit to Rosa's current place of work to see the Gilbert and George Private View.

(As a security guard wouldn't leave my side until she had seen me delete a photo I took in the bookshop, I should probably admit that the above image is courtesy of White Cube...) It was a little down in the dumps for my liking, but maybe with a bit more effort I would feel differently. I loved that Gilbert and George were at the Bermondsey gallery, looking dapper in those infamous suits of theirs, like this

However, sadly a long day of work and the repetitive use of words like THIEF SCANDAL DEATH etc made me feel a bit like I just wanted to be this little guy

 

Gilbert and George's massive display of work in White Cube galleries across London and in Hong Kong probably deserve another trip and more enthusiasm on my part, at a time when I don't feel the urge to cower in the corner. I'm hoping Rosa is going to wear this great gold glittery crochet skirt, bought from a car boot sale in Kilburn last weekend, to Notting Hill Carnival. Its suitably see-through and glittery, maybe we can persuade her to join a float.... Another purchase was this big brightly printed jumper, looking quite crazy with rose print jeans here.

Rosa just got back from holiday in France with many great buys from a jumble sale, such as this lovely orange crinkled skirt. And Tessa, after her first day at a new job - bit tired and ready to go home.

I know everyone loves flowers, and spring and warmer weather. But not everyone shares their name with Goldhawk Road's finest (only) florist! The house covered in wysteria is nearby where I live and so much better in real life. Rosa's got nice tulips too

I lived the dream this weekend as I was reunited with my best friends Tessa and Rosa who both go to uni in Bristol. Tessa has somehow acquired the best wardrobe ever (its expanded about three times over since the last time I visited), and is the best person to stay with because she lets you borrow anything. So exciting. And look at Rosa's eyelashes! They are one of the wonders of the world, surely.

Rosa has left London for Madrid today. I really love Madrid - I'm sure some of the main reasons I like it so much are due to family connections - my parents met there, my brother was born in Madrid. I reckon (hope) I have also discovered some of it for myself though too. The ladies in summer all have really deep tans and smooth shiny legs and almost always wear white. Impressive. And the men wear chinos and suede loafers and shirts and it actually looks good. I found a few photos I took on a brief trip earlier this summer.

Pebbles

Kate drove us to Brighton last week for a day and night by the seaside. It rained quite a lot, and was cold, but that felt kind of right for a British seaside resort. I liked Rosa's leopard print with the pebbles.
