Cornwall in July... Grandpa's sweet peas carefully transported home to London and Grandma's cream tea... summer flew past far too quickly and I'm nostalgic for it already!

Alice Neel
One of the many joys of London is that having time to burn is often a blessing, as I found last week while waiting for a friend to finish work. Nearby was the Victoria Miro Gallery and a retrospective of American painter Alice Neel's work. What a great show - full of life and vibrancy. Neel sounds like she was a pretty fab, painting and living in New York with her children and long term latino lover, her work focusing on local subjects.

Clash
V in to a rowdy colour clash at the moment - which was particularly evident this week when I had to wear all black and felt like an imposter all day in my serious get up. Why look boring when you could look a bit nuts?

ROCCO

Rocco is a beautiful restaurant in Rome, tiny and relaxed with delicious food and wine. It's the kind of place you want to stare at all the other diners for hours and then go out and buy exactly what they're wearing so effortlessly, while also becoming a chef and florist. A jewel of a place!

I first went to Rome on a school trip and loved it instantly. Just back from a fleeting but busy and pizza fuelled trip - the infatuation has bloomed

Lartigue in Colour
Florette, Jacques-Henri Lartigue, 1954
Florette and Picasso, Vallauris, 1955
Taken from the beautiful and inspiring book A Life in Colour by Lartigue. Florette was Lartigue's wife of 41 years, and 27 years younger than the photographer. Breathlessly beautiful throughout.

Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin
Taken from Revolution: Russian Art 1917-1932, a brilliant (if horribly overcrowded) exhibition at the Royal Academy. So much to see, and in my case, learn. Petrov-Vodkin's ancestors were bandits, and according to local legend his surname derives from homemade vodka produced by his grandmother... what's not to love?
