Midnight Cowboy

I'm one of the few people in London/UK/The World it seems that still uses a DVD player - and borrows DVDs from their local library. A recent hit was Midnight Cowboy, a 1969 Oscar winning film starring Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman. While being very dark in places, the film is also very touching in the relationship forged between pretend cowboy Voight and outcast vagabond Hoffman. And of course....the clothes....

Dave Heath

I visited the Photographer's Gallery this week to see the Deutsche Börse prize, but what really caught my eye were the Dave Heath pictures on display. Famed for his portraits of life in post war North America, Heath was predominantly self taught and well known for his skilled printing technique. Of course, I loved the clothes in these snapshots of 1960s New York, but it's worth a visit if you're sartorially interested or not.

Lemons

As summer begins to draw an end and I start to make staunch resolutions about baring legs for as long as possible, my thoughts turn to clothes I wish I had got more wear out of. I picked up this beautiful little 1960s dress for 3 euro from a market in Spain earlier this Summer
Quite difficult to wear as it is essentially see through but it makes a great pool/beach dress. I love fruit prints, I've written about a Stella McCartney favourite years ago here and here.

John Bulmer

Photographs of the North of England from the 1960s
I was reminded of John Bulmer's work recently by an article in a weekend paper. I love how his photographs tell a real story - often a bit of a depressing one - but are also so beautiful.

The Story behind...

Sometimes it's nice to know a little more about what inspires style and fashion trends - all too often things can feel a little foreign... At One Off we have decided to let you behind the scenes, and to explain the story behind certain styling and clothing choices.

This week it's the turn of the Jackie O inspired Fringed Dress:
This dress is simple and chic but crucially not boring or too grown up. Its texture and fringe help to jazz things up a bit.

We love a bit of texture at One Off.

A few months ago, I went through a real Kennedy family fad, which no doubt inspired me to buy this dress when on a One Off shopping trip.

Channel 1960s Kennedy chic when wearing this dress.

We styled it for the photo shoot with a well loved pair  of chunky black suede wedges with an ankle strap, which looks great
but you could wear this dress anyway you want, and team it with a pair of smart loafers
or keep it real 60s preppy vibe with a pair of ballet pumps
We kept it simple for the shoot, but I reckon this dress would be even better with a bit of gold. Throw on a chunky necklace or a pair of hoops to make this a more polished look.

Who knows - maybe this dress is a Jackie O original!

You could do a lot worse than looking like Jackie.
