The Breakfast Table

The Breakfast Table, 1884
John Singer Sargent

Love the morning light - the new day - creeping in to this painting.

Breakfast is by far the best meal of the day; sustenance for adventures that lay ahead. A slightly hindered scope for that in Jan 2021, but there was lots of it here

Picnics on the road

Boiled eggs and portable tin of salt... what more could you ask for? Also love my vintage embroidered napkins from ebay - bought as inspiration when thinking about embroidering my own. Watch this space!

London's Roses

Rose season... Amazing that there are over 150 species of rose. Wish they hung around a little longer!

Lockdown Polaroid 1

9/5/2020
Bow, London
Inspired by Patti Smith, I asked for a polaroid camera for Christmas a few years ago. I've loved using it - harder than it looks! - and have been taking pictures on walks and at home during the Lockdown period. I'm not sure exactly to what purpose - I'm sure we are all keen to forget this
weird, muddling time ASAP - but there is something in capturing what is beautiful in the world, Corona or not.

An uplifting and inspiring exhibition at The National Gallery at the moment - well worth a visit. I spent a very happy afternoon with the best Senorita I know thinking of many happy times spent in Spain.

Lunch at the Wheel

One last Pasty and an assault on some Cornish Charity shops before heading back to London after Christmas - quite literally filled a suitcase of treasure.

Autumn on its way...

Just home from a week in Majorca, seeing out the last of the heat that summer has to offer... Stepping off the plane at Gatwick is always a bit of a shock! Especially when you're still wearing your sunblock smeared (and small) beach clothes from a last minute dash to the beach before take off.
But things could be worse, especially when your flatmate's a florist and creates beautiful autumnal bunches like this.

Spanish Cherries

I spent a weekend up North visiting my brother recently, and while there took a trip to the Bowes Museum to see an exhibition of 17th Century Spanish paintings that he has just helped put on.
Still life with flowers, artichokes and glassware
Juan van der Hamen y Leon, 1627
Really loved this Spanish still life on loan from the Prado in Madrid. Apparently what makes Spanish still life different from others, is that each element of the painting is set apart in it's own space. I particularly liked the translucent, glassy cherries.

Floral Day

My flowery day started with a pair of floral lace socks I pulled on quickly this morning - their first ever trip out of the cellophane packet. Didn't realise that they were meant for people with twig legs and kind of cut off the blood to my very hot feet

At least they look nice
Finished the day by unintentionally blending in with the roses in Holland Park while having a drink with Catherine.
