Monday
I've recently subscribed to the Magnum Photography website, which gives you the option of being sent a 'photo of the week.' I forgot about that till last night when I got the email, and it made my evening. The picture by David Alan Harvey, shows a workhorse being kept over night on a family's porch in Trinidad. The horse reminded me of a photograph by one of my favourite photographers Josef Koudelka, who has is famous for taking pictures of gypsies in Eastern Europe. Another equestrian related thought was my trip Bradford a couple of months ago, where I visited the National Museum of Media. It has an enourmous archive of photographs, and the current photography exhibition 'From Back Home' was brilliant. It showcased two Swedish photographers, and this photograph by Anders Petersen was particularly romantic and nostalgic. And then - not horse but I suppose mammal related - I thought of this book of paintings I have of bulls. Quite random - I bought it in a charity shop in Shepherd's Bush years ago. I really love it - the paintings remind me of my uncle who is a farmer, and was once in a punk band with his friends called 'Mad Cow'.

Charming
I went to Edinburgh recently and two things stood out - that Harvey Nichols like stationary (see dress and tree made out of pegs/pencils), and the oval tray of gold charm bracelets in a pawn shop window. Sometimes find pawn shops a bit sad, as I always invent heartbreaking stories for why people's engagement rings are sparkling at me from the shop window. Charm bracelets are particularly personal I think, as they take so long to fill up. I have a silver one, that has mostly been contributed to by my Cornish Grandma, with charms such as a pasty and tin mine. (One other thing that stood out - Men in Kilts. No thanks.)

In a Hurry

Pat
This Christmas I watched a lot of films as we have just got a projector and can watch things on the big screen! Its really cool. And obviously all the clothes look a lot better big too. The best film I watched this Christmas, and probably now one of my most favourite films generally, was Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid - the soundtrack and photography are amazing. Kris Kristofferson is now my all time favourite cowboy, and has great outfits the whole way through. The Great Gatsby, Onegin and Roman Holiday were also amoung the best we watched. And Troy which I think counts as Greek Mythology revision for up and coming third year exams.
