Warhol, Lynch & Burroughs

The pictures of Andy Warhol, David Lynch and William S Burroughs are currently on show at The Photographer's Gallery in Oxford Circus. Not primarily known for their photography, the 3 capsule exhibitions cast an intimate and thought provoking light on the period from which each artist worked.

Warhol's photographs clearly refrence his fascination with advertising which we know so well from his painting and prints. His pictures are lively, full of energy and interestingly, people.
David Lynch's photographs were unsurprisingly cinematic, dramatic and ominous

Some favourites of mine from Burroughs are too difficult to find pictures of, but involve roses being shoved in to coca cola bottles - a favourite practice of mine during my kooky university phase...

Christian Lacroix's haute couture embodies all the lavish opulence one imagines haute couture should be.

Moon and Stars

How amazing are these earrings? Unfortunately they're clip ons, so I can't really wear these guys without a constant fear of losing them.

Katharine Hamnett

I was reminded of Katharine Hamnett's amazing black and white campaigns today. There are some really good ones
Hamnett's perhaps best known for her slogan protest T-Shirts, which she first made in the early 1980s and were worn and championed by popstars far and wide - that T-shirt in that Wham! video for example...
Here she is meeting Margaret Thatcher, who must have been trying very hard not to look at the blaring words of Hamnett's top.

Hungry Heart

I found Dad's records in a dark corner of my room last week - he has an enviable collection. I have borrowed the two Bruce Springsteen albums and the Ian Dury record to decorate my room with until I grudgingly have to give them back. My music taste is entirely inherited from my parents really, Bruce ranks embarrassingly high on my play count.

Hello Mum!

Last night I found this photograph of my Mum sandwiched between the pages of a book I hadn't looked through for a long time. The first time I saw it years ago, I remember hoping she had kept everything she is wearing because I think she looks amazing. She's always been a bit of style queen.
